class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Germaine Acogny, regarded as \"the mother of contemporary African dance\" worldwide, is one of the best-known figures on the African dance scene, particularly in the field of teaching and developing dance in Africa.<br \/><br \/>Senegalese and French, she participated from 1962 till 1965 at the formation at Simon Siegel\u2019s school (the director was Ms Marguerite Lamotte) in Paris and received a diploma in physical education and harmonious gymnastics. Then, she founded her first dance studio in Dakar, 1968. Thanks to the influence of the dances she had inherited from her grandmother, a Yoruba priest, and to her studies of traditional African dances and Occidental dances (classic, modern) in Paris and New York, Germaine Acogny created her own technique of Modern African Dance and is considered to be the \u201cmother of Contemporary African dance\u201d.<br \/><br \/>Between 1977 and 1982 she was the artistic director of MUDRA AFRIQUE (Dakar), created by Maurice B\u00e9jart and the Senegalese president and poet Leopold Sedar Senghor.<br \/><br \/>In 1980, she wrote her first book entitled \u201cAfrican Dance\u201d, edited in three languages.<br \/><br \/>Once Mudra Afrique had closed, she moved to Brussels to work with Maurice B\u00e9jart\u2019s company, where she organised international African dance workshops, which showed great success among the European students. This same experience was repeated in Africa, in Fanghoum\u00e9, a small village in Casamance, in the south of Senegal. People from Europe and all over the world travelled to this place. She has thus become a true emissary of African dance and culture.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7a437df7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-htmega-toggle-addons\" data-id=\"7a437df7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"htmega-toggle-addons.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t            <div class=\"htmega-toggle-area\" >\n                \n                <div class=\"htmega-toggle-content-7a437df7\" style=\"display: none;\">\n                    <div class=\"htmega_custom_content\"><p>In 1985, with her husband Helmut Vogt, she founded the \"Studio-Ecole-Ballet-Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du 3\u00e8 Monde\" in Toulouse, France.<br \/><br \/>In 1997, Germaine Acogny became Artistic Director of the \u201cDance section of Afrique en Creations\u201d in Paris, a position she held until September 2000. During this time, she was responsible for the Contemporary African Dance Competition, an important platform for young African choreographers.<br \/><br \/>Toujours avec son mari, elle cr\u00e9e au S\u00e9n\u00e9gal le Centre International des Danses Africaines Traditionnelles et Contemporaines, l\u2019\u00c9cole des Sables, inaugur\u00e9e en 2004. En parall\u00e8le et d\u00e8s 1998, des ateliers professionnels de trois mois pour danseurs et chor\u00e9graphes africains sont organis\u00e9s chaque ann\u00e9e. Une quarantaine de danseurs venus de toute l'Afrique se sont rencontr\u00e9s, ont \u00e9chang\u00e9 et travaill\u00e9 ensemble \u00e0 chaque fois.<br \/><br \/>Since 1998, Germaine Acogny has regularly created solos for herself and, since 2004, choreographies for her company JANT-BI, which tours successfully throughout the world.<br \/><br \/>In 2005, she was also invited to be a regent at traditions, is not a return to our roots. On the contrary, it is a very different path, resolutely urban and modern, reflecting the context in which Africa lives today, the Africa of buildings, the Africa of great international contradictions. We don't want to subjugate, to infer black dance. We only want it to impose itself by its own character in modern civilization and to take its rightful place.
