Ecole des Sables is entering an important new phase in its history. After almost five years of collaboration, Wesley Ruzibiza and Alesandra Seutin completed their mission as co-artistic directors at the end of December 2024.
We would like to thank them warmly for their positive and inspiring contribution to the Ecole des Sables, true to the spirit of Germaine Acogny. These years have been marked by challenges, learning and projects that have helped to maintain the influence of our institution.
We wish them every success in their respective careers, and know that we can count on them in the future for occasional teaching assignments and artistic advice.
As of 1 January 2025, Dr. Omilade Davis-Smith has been appointed Head of the Artistic and Training Department at the Ecole des Sables.
A sablist and graduate of the Acogny Technique, Dr. Davis-Smith has pursued a long career in dance, research and teaching.
She is currently Assistant Professor of Dance at The American University in Washington. Her research includes a book on the Technique of Germaine Acogny, a critical archive on contemporary African dance, and curriculum development. Dr. Davis-Smith is already teaming up with renowned artists to oversee the artistic development of Ecole des Sables.

This is our way of affirming our commitment to continuing to uphold the legacy of the founders of Ecole des Sables, through innovation, reflection and the strong bond that unites us all, dancers, choreographers and administrators. This perfectly illustrates our mission: to be a space for sharing, creating and promoting contemporary African dance.
